(See Below)
The Lyon Creek Enhancement project is
100% funded by City of MLT
Will relocate 100 to 150 ft. reach of Lyon Creek
Will restructure creek bed and include native plantings per DFW and Army Corps
Will include installation of pedestrian amenities.
The project is located just inside the border of MLT at the north end of LFP near the intersection of NE 205 St. and 37th Ave. as shown below:
A photograph of the existing stream bed is shown below:
The project will be done by the August 31st permit deadline.
Looking ahead to our planting plan, I would like to propose two sessions of
several hours each on a weekend in September and a weekend in October. I am on
vacation from September 27th through October 19th, so we will have to work
before and after these dates. I would like to look at a morning session either
the weekend of September 13-14 or 20-21 and then again on October 25-26 or
November 1-2.
The sessions would be evenly split between large and small plants. Our first
session would focus on the area along the creek bed and in an area on the east
hillside to get roots established as soon as possible before the rains set in.
The second session would be for fill in along the creek and the area between the
creek and the roadway with more drought tolerant species. I'll have compost on
hand to fill in around our root holes as the soil substrate may be variable.
I will be drafting help from Terrace sources and hope to have a turnout that can
plant a thousand or so stems on each day. About half of the stems will be willow
and dogwood stakes that can be pounded into the ground. That should go very
quickly. Please contact the LFP Stewardship Foundation at
info@lfpsf.org or (206) 361-7076 (voice
mail) to volunteer.
